Sources & Standards

Major factual claims on this site link to a source you can open and check. Personal testimony on the About page is labeled as such. This page lists the primary sources in one place and explains the editorial rules they have to pass.

Editorial Standards

This is an independent consumer resource, not affiliated with Extra Space Storage or any competitor. These are the rules every page follows.

What We Cite

  • Court filings, dockets, and settlement records
  • Government agency press releases and complaint portals
  • The company's own public statements, SEC filings, and investor materials
  • Peer-reviewed or academic publications describing company practices
  • Consumer complaint databases with public profiles
  • News reporting from established outlets and trade press

The Rules

  • Major factual claims link to a source you can verify yourself; first-person testimony is clearly labeled and stands on its own
  • Allegations are called allegations. Where a case settled, we say so, including when the company admitted nothing
  • Words like "trap" and "scam" are our opinion of what the record shows; the site disclaimer says exactly that
  • When the public record changes, the pages change, and the footer date changes with them

Where the Material Comes From

These are the main documents cited across the site. Individual pages link to the specific source for each claim.
