Why This Site Exists

An independent consumer resource built from public records.

The Record They'd Rather You Couldn't See

This site is not affiliated with Extra Space Storage. It was built from public records: a city lawsuit, court filings, the company's own academic paper, its public statements, and more than a thousand Better Business Bureau complaints. Every claim here links to its source.

Other large storage companies use similar tactics. This site focuses on Extra Space because they are the largest operator and the subject of the most legal action.

The reason these stories rarely make headlines is by design. Forced arbitration keeps disputes out of public courtrooms, and class-action bans keep customers from pooling their cases. The one service that used to help people file arbitration claims, FairShake, shut down in 2023 after companies made the process harder. So the evidence stays scattered and quiet.

So this page puts it all back in one place. If you're already stuck, maybe something here helps. If you're about to sign, take it as a warning. And if they already got you, you're not alone. Got a story of your own? It belongs here too.
